The short version
This is a personal blog. Google Analytics runs only if you accept it, and the site collects whatever you choose to send through the contact form or the tools. It does not sell your information, run advertising trackers, or add you to any list without your say-so.

Information this site collects

Analytics (opt-in). This site uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic, such as which pages are visited, general location, and device type. It is switched off until you accept it on the cookie banner: if you decline, or ignore the banner, Google Analytics is never loaded and sets no analytics cookie. IP addresses are anonymized. You can change or withdraw your choice any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. The site also uses a privacy-friendly, cookieless usage measurement (Vercel Web Analytics) that does not use cookies or identify you.

Contact form. If you use the contact form, the name, email address, optional phone number, and message you submit are sent to my inbox so I can reply. That information is used only to respond to you.

Interactive tools. The free tools generate a plan or report from the answers you enter. Those answers and the generated result are used only to produce your report in that session and are not stored. If you choose to have a report emailed to you, or ask to be contacted, the contact details you provide are saved so I can send it or reply.

Ask Dave assistant. The “Ask Dave” assistant answers questions using my published writing. To understand what people are looking for and where my content has gaps, the question and the answer are logged without any visitor identifiers(no name, email, or IP). Please do not type personal or sensitive information into it. These logs are automatically deleted after 90 days.

How the information is used

To understand what content is helpful and to improve the site, and to respond to messages you send me. That is all.

What this site does not do

  • It does not sell, rent, or trade your information.
  • It does not run advertising or cross-site tracking.
  • It does not add you to an email list without your explicit opt-in.
  • It does not ask for sensitive personal information.

Cookies

The site sets analytics cookies only after you accept them on the cookie banner. If you accept, Google Analytics may set cookies to measure traffic; if you decline, it is not loaded and sets no cookies. You can change or withdraw your choice any time with the “Cookie settings” link in the footer, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser at any time. This site does not use cookies for advertising.

Third-party services

A few trusted services help run this site. Each has its own privacy practices:

  • Hosting for serving the site.
  • Google Analytics for aggregate traffic measurement.
  • Email delivery for routing contact-form messages to my inbox.
  • Content management for publishing the writing and guides.
  • An AI provider that powers the “Ask Dave” assistant and the interactive tools. Your question or tool answers are sent to it to generate a response and are not used by it to train its models.

Your choices

You can read everything here without submitting anything. If you have sent me a message and would like me to delete it, or you want to know what I hold, just contact me and I will take care of it.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “last updated” date above will change with it.
